Why is exclusive jurisdiction important?

An exclusive jurisdiction clause provides that the courts of one country only will be able to hear disputes arising under the contract. This provides virtual certainty as to where a dispute might be resolved but also restricts parties to resolving disputes in the chosen jurisdiction.
